What I Have Learned

So this has been a crazy night for us. We had to go to Primary Children's Hospital to have a sleep study and eeg preformed on Emma so that we can try to find the cause of her seizures. Well it was an interesting night indeed. If you can imagine a little girl with her head totally bandaged with gauze and 30+ wires coming out the back of the bandage attatched to a machine to transmit all of the info that she carried around like a purse. (Cory did not want to take any pictures because I think it hurt him more to see her that way than it did any one else.) None of this hurts her but it looks bad. So we have this done and then they send us to the cafeteria for dinner. The kids are totally excited. As we are walking the halls, a group of ladies are gathered. They stare at Emma with horrified looks. I luckily was the only one who saw. Now if my kid was really hurt or sick I would be devestated it is hard enough to be the parent but to see the looks just about sent me over the edge. I wanted to scream at them that it was a hospital and if they couldn't handle it to leave.
So what I have learned is when you see a child who is obviously sick. You need to control you emotions and actions so that you don't let on how you really feel. Trust me Cory can testify when things are happening I am like a rock but afterwards is when I totally break down. When no one can see.
I have also learned how grateful I am that we moved to Utah. We were so not happy about coming here and leaving our family and friends. But I have never been so thankful to be near these wonderful doctors who can preform their tests and do it so they don't totally scare my kid silly. I am grateful for Doctors and hospital totally dedicated to kids and they treat them so well. I will never doubt the Lord's directing hand in my life.
Not to scare you these tests Emma had did not hurt it just required her to sleep with lots of electrodes placed all over her body. Eventhough it was uncomfortable she did not hurt and she put it." Mommy, I itch." But once she was asleep nothing but snores. Then when they came to wake her up she did not want to get up beacuse she was sleeping so peacefully. But once I asked if she was ready to go home, get dad and Drew, and go to Denny's. All Smiles!! That really makes a parent happy.

Glad it all went okay, I agree with you on people being considerate. When I do share babies some days I will walk down the hall holding the baby to go do the molds and the baby has already passed and people make the worse faces. Its cruel.

Since I have some experience as a sick kid I can tell you one of the worst looks a sick kid can get is that stare.

But since I was a teenager I was completely justified and very much known to give those kind of people the Bird when I caught the look(behind my parents back ofcourse:)
I much preferred the new look they would give to the old one
You can teach Emma how to stick her tongue out in those circumstances =0 Defiance is better than thinking there is something wrong with her. Adults are stupid sometimes and sometimes it takes a kid to tell them so.

My Father always had a hard time being in the hospital with me. It's hard on Dads to see there little girls that way. I'm very impressed that Corey handled it so well and I'm glad that Emma had his presence there to make her feel more secure.

Glad to hear things went well. I hope that you get a clear answer as to what is causing the seizures. There is nothing worse then when your child is sick.

Hopefully the doctors will find out what's causing the seizures. Not knowing must be hard for you and Cory.

Primary Children's is the best - too bad some of their patrons are not. I hope you are able to find an answer to her seizures. Good luck!

What a trooper. Did they learn anything from the tests they did? I hope you get to the bottom of this. It must be so stressful for all of you.
